The skin is the largest organ of the human body, a strategic and irreplaceable covering that acts as a protective barrier against the external environment: it absorbs and blocks radiation, modulates the loss of water, presides over the pigmentation (melanin) and is one of the principal sensory organs because it is rich in nerve endings that receive and transmit external signals.
It is a complex structure made up of 3 different layers: epidermis, dermis and hypodermis.
Starting from the surface:

The stratum corneum is coated with a special hydro-lipidic film full of water and lipids, sebum, sweat and small molecules named Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF), which preserves the moisture and elasticity of the skin, at pH 5.5 acid then bactericide.
- Dermis: connective tissue, the support and nourishment for skin and cutaneous structures as hair follicles, nails, sweat and sebaceous glands. It is richly vascularized, it also contains blood and lymph vessels, nerves, skin appendages, inflammatory mediators and immune cells, fibroblasts and Collagen and Elastin, protein fibers providing respectively mechanical strength and elasticity to return to its original size after a traction. These fibers are immersed in the fundamental or amorphous substance mainly made by glycosaminoglycans, including Hyaluronic Acid able to bind water molecules giving hydration and firmness to the tissues.
- Hypodermis: subcutaneous adipose tissue.
